The Albsteig – HW 1 – the Swabian Alb northern edge trail from Donauwörth to Tuttlingen
Always along the northern and western edge of the Swabian AlbThe oldest and most traditional main hiking trail in the Swabian Alb, the Albsteig – HW 1, always runs along the Albtrauf. It offers fantastic views from the limestone cliffs into the foothills of the Alb.
The Albsteig was founded over 120 years ago by the Swabian Alb Association developed and created more than 120 years ago, it runs for around 365 kilometers from Donauwörth in Bavaria across the Alb to Tuttlingen back to the Danube.
On the last two daily stages, the Albsteig leads along the western Albtrauf through the Donaubergland.
The Albsteig – HW 1 in the Donaubergland
In the Donaubergland region, the penultimate stage of the Albsteig leads over the highest mountain in the Swabian Alb, the Lemberg to Gosheim, then over the Klippeneck in the direction of the Dreifaltigkeitsberg to the Risiberg, a ridge between Spaichingen, Tuttlingen and Mühlheim an der Donau. On the Risiberg, you can stop off at the Waldeck-Risiberg country inn and spend the night.
The last section of the Albsteig trail leads via the Rußberg, the Bettelmannskeller and the Nonnehöhle near Wurmlingen directly to Tuttlingen. In Tuttlingen there are various places to stop for refreshments and overnight accommodation as well as good train connections.
