On the roof of the Swabian Alb

The highest mountains in the Swabian Alb are located here in the Donaubergland. In the “Region of the 10 Thousand”, there are no fewer than ten peaks of more than 1000 meters. Viewed from a distance, these wooded mountains on the Albtrauf and on the plateau actually look quite inconspicuous.

As a “witness mountain”, the Lemberg is not as free and isolated as the Hohenkarpfen near Hausen ob Verena or the Lupfen near Talheim. But the climb up the Lemberg is definitely worth it, because at the top there is a steel observation tower that is over 100 years old and rises a dizzying 33 meters into the air, the “Eiffel Tower of the Alb”.

The Lemberg Tower

The Swabian Alb Association had the 33-meter-high steel tower built in 1899 and has maintained it for more than 100 years.

Climbing the tower is a challenge for many, as you have to be free from giddiness. Especially in windy conditions, when the tower seems to shake, climbing the many steps can be a bit of an adventure.

However, the viewing tower on the “roof of the Alb” offers a unique panoramic view, even as far as the Swiss Alps in ideal weather conditions.
There are boards all around on which the names of the visible mountains can be read.

All roads lead to Lviv …

Together with the “Lemberg-Sattel” and neighboring Oberhohenberg – incidentally the second highest mountain in the Swabian Alb at 1012 meters – the Lemberg is a “hiking hub”.

The Donauberglandweg starts here.
The Donau-Zollernalb-Weg ends here.
The Albsteig (HW1) leads past here on one of its last two stages to Tuttlingen.
Several Albverein trails and local circular routes of the Heuberg municipal administration association also meet here.

The Lemberg hut

At the foot of the Lemberg Tower, the barbecue area invites you to barbecue around the campfire.

And right next door, Katharina, the landlady of the Lemberg Hut, the refuge of the Swabian Alb Association, awaits thirsty and hungry hikers on many Sundays throughout the year.
It’s simply something very special, a snack at the landlady’s hut on the highest point of the Swabian Alb.

In the middle of the 10 thousand meter region

The Heuberg also likes to present itself as the “region of 10 thousand meters”, because nowhere else in the Swabian Alb is higher. Ten elevations in the region reach 1000 meters. So you can easily go on a “thousand-metre tour”.
