The mighty edge of the Albtrauf, gentle, wide highlands, lively karst mountains and the imposing gorges on the Young Danube
The Donaubergland is the south-western part of the Swabian Alb. Here you will find the highest mountains in the Alb, more than ten thousand meters high, and the deepest valleys in the Young Danube breakthrough valley.
The Swabian Alb is not only the cave-richest low mountain range in Europe, it is also the cradle of human art. The oldest known figurative works of art of mankind, the “Venus of the Hollow Rock” and the “Lion Man” (around 35 – 40,000 years old) and the oldest known musical instruments were found in Ice Age caves in the Swabian Jura. Since 2017, the Swabian Jura has therefore also been recognized as a UNESCO Geopark .
But the Swabian Alb is so much more: palaces, castles and ruins of mighty imperial and royal houses and the Württemberg nobility, unique orchards, vast juniper heaths and UNESCO-listed cultural sites, surrounded by the Danube and Neckar rivers, are just waiting to be discovered by you.
The Swabian Alb stretches from the southwest at the Danube seepage to the eastern Alb near Aalen and Ellwangen on the border with Bavaria, from Tübingen to Ulm. Discover the immense diversity of nature!
